A spate of major international sporting events slated to be held in Russia over the next few years are expected to provide a major boost to the construction industry in the country.
Russia was probably one of the only countries in the world whose construction industry recorded growth during the 2006-2010 period in spite of the global economic recession. The Russian industry grew at a rate of 16.16% in the aforementioned period and is expected to continue growing with a CAGR of 9.81% to 2015.
The good performance of the Russian construction industry is mainly attributed to the three major sporting events - Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2012, the Winter Olympic Games 2014 and the FIFA World Cup 2018 - that Russia will host.
As far as individual sectors are concerned, the infrastructure construction market is expected to put in the strongest performance over the next few years and grow with a CAGR of 14.87%. The industrial, commercial and construction markets are expected to perform quite well owing to the progress of several projects that are currently being executed.
All these and many more facts and figures in addition to an in-depth analysis can be found in the report: The Future of Construction in Russia to 2015: Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2012, the Winter Olympic Games 2014 and the FIFA World Cup 2018 to be Key Growth Drivers published by World Market Intelligence (WMI).
